I saw an interview with that hobbit guy and he said they had written a beginning and an end but didn't really have much of a middle.

That doesn't surprise me in the least.  The fella and I were talking about it and he thought they had it all written out.  I said I didn't think so, they just made it up as they went.  It just seems so incoherent that it couldn't have been properly outlined and boarded, or whatever they do.
