Timothy started playing basketball in a church league recently.  Last night was their third practice and first scrimmage. (sic?)

They got KILLED.  Their coach is obviously not used to coaching and doesn't really know what he's doing.  They run around like little mad men (and women) most of the time and he's not teaching them much.

The other team, however, played like pros. They were setting picks, and learning all sorts of plays, both offensive and defensive.

I hate it that these kids are (most likely) going to lose every game, and lose by a lot.

What would you do if you were me?  Anything?  Nothing?  Just wait and see how it goes?  Address the coach?

Their first game is Saturday, and I'm nervous for them.  They seem to be having fun, though. I don't know how long that will last if they have a blowout every game.

Give him a few games.  Maybe they couldn't find a coach and this guy was nice enough to give it a try so the kids could play.  Or get all the parents together and burn his house down.

I'm not going to go bitch him out or anything, but I considered asking if he needed any help.  Not that I know how to coach either...

It's obviously his first year, and I appreciate him volunteering.  I just hope the kids can keep having fun.  We'll see what happens.

I'd say don't say anything as long as it looks like Timothy is having fun.

He had fun yesterday, and they got creamed.  We'll see how it goes.  If nothing else, Ill get up and scream "THIS FUCKING SUCKS" in the middle of a game and make him quit.  No kid of mine is going to be a goddamn loser.

Replace the coach with Rick Moranis.

It's only been one game, and kid's leagues are notorious for inconsistency.  Maybe that opposing team was full of Adolph Rupp's mulatto children.

Interesting theory.  We ARE in Kentucky, and two of the little girls very well could have been mulatto...

Stop muddying the bloodlines, race killer!!!!!!

Actually, there are these two little girls who are AMAZING ball handlers *pause for pervy thoughts*.  They could definitely beat me at a game of 1 on 1.  They're 9 years old.  Amazing.

Mixed race children are some of the most gorgeous children around.  Especially if it's half asian & half whatever else.

My boys are playing in a church league, too.  And it is quite obvious that some teams are much better prepared than others.  My boys have every bit of my athletic ability, and for that I am truly sorry.  But they are having a good time.

I know how sucky it is to watch your kids get creamed, especially since your kid gets put with whatever coach the league director assigns him to and that guy might be a moron.  But I don't think he'll be scarred for life or anything because of it.  Besides, the church leagues are usually more about the sportsmanship than the win-lose percentage.

If only the parents would calm down, though.  I know that 98.786% of parents think that their precious child is the team superstar, but coaching from the sidelines is just too confusing for those kids.  And bad tempers set bad examples.  And other philosophical shit like that.

I've been given shit about this in the old place, but I maintain that I don't think I've ever seen an unattractive half-Asian girl and generally half white + (something else) tend to have a probability of being less ugly.  Help me increase genetic diversity thereby stamping out recessive diseases and control harmful mutations in genes by heterosis.

We're all God's children, even when we suck at basketball ;)

I coached 4 + 5 year old soccer.  Sometimes it is the kids you get.  I had some stars, and some that would rather stand and pick their noses.

I think you should teach/coach Timothy yourself.  The others might learn from Timothy.

I give the coach credit, as he isn't doing it for the money.

What position is Timothy playing?   Are the other kids visibly upset at losing?  Does the coach at least seem to notice that he is incompetent?
