Can they go undefeated and win the Superbowl?  No team in modern history has done it except the 1972 Miami Dolphins but that was in a shorter season (14 regular season games as opposed to today's 16 regular season games).

Boo...Colts suck.. (although they are playing mighty well this season)....I just don't want my Broncos to have to play them...cuz then my Broncos will lose...and that will make me sad... :-[
Have you ever seen a llama kiss a llama on the llama?

Jessie

I don't like Funyons, but I picked that anyway.
we should have kept the quote pyramid up to rape Jessie in the face.

Alice

They won't win the Superbowl because the Bears are going to win it.

Even without Red Grange?  It's unthinkable!

That said, while the Bears D is very strong, the offense is not up to par for making a serious SuperBowl run.  I've seen some damned good defenses in my day, '85 Bears, '86 Giants, '91 Redskins, '92 Eagles and today's Bears are not quite in that class anyway.  But they will shock somebody in the playoffs and that will be sweet for a team projected to finish last by most preseason polls.

The only team that has the D to beat the Colts right now and is still on their schedule is Jacksonville.  They did hold 'em to 10 points early in the season.

That said, I think the only way to beat the Colts is to stop the pass at the expense of not stopping the run.  When you're on offense, score like mad.  The only way to stay ahead is to keep on scoring.

San Diego and Seattle have the best chance to win in that way.

Once the Colts have home-field locked up -- basically, the moment Denver loses another game -- they will only play their starters for one quarter, and in Week 17, Peyton Manning will play one series to keep his consecutive-games streak going.  Someone'll end up beating the Colts in Week 16 or 17, when their backups are in.

I hear that Dungy doesn't even bring up the undefeated thing.

Also, as Gregg Easterbrook said last year or the year before when Vanderjagt hadn't missed a kick, it is better to honk one in the regular season and relieve the pressure than to honk one in the playoffs and get booted.  It might be better for the Colts to lose a game or two, just so they don't have the undefeated pressure on them anymore.

That's basically what Gary Fencik (Bears FS in 1985) said after losing to the Dolphins.  He ended up being right as they won out after that one loss.  That was one of the sweetest moments of my life as my Dolphins preserved a little history and upstaged the Bears 38-24 on MNF.
