Not quite as good as Spirited Away, but in a similar vein.

Easily the best film I've seen in a theater this summer.  It produced more honest smiles and senses of wonder than anything I've seen since... well, perhaps Spirited Away.

It's a gentle tale about a girl learning her own worth and learning how to enjoy her life, all to the backdrop of the stupidity of warmongering humanity.

And, surprisingly, I stopped taking issue with Billy Crystal's voice after about five minutes.

Miyazaki takes a much more painterly approach to the visuals this time, and it is often quite beautiful to watch.

If you disliked Spirited Away, I'd say avoid this.  If you didn't see Spirited Away or enjoyed it, then don't let this one pass you by.

Oh, and it is worth noting that every trailer in front of it was some piece of shit Disney or Dreamworks CG family "comedy" with poorly written, cliched characters and plentiful bodily humor jokes.  Miyazaki outclasses that crap by such a wide margin that the people creating those films ought to be ashamed of themselves.  I'm pretty sure Walt would have taken his name off of these products if he were still alive.

I didn't like Spirited Away.
Underneath this flabby exterior is an enormous lack of character.

i've been looking forward to this film for quite some time now....and it's good to hear a good review.....my main concern was the voice actors that they choose to dub over it....but it seems they arn't that bad

i do think that Sprited Away was a big step up from Princess Mononoke as far as voice over but that Princess Mononoke was supierior in plot and philosophy....although i must say that it is his ealier films that should be looked at

i look forward to seeing this when it comes to town

I'm not a fan of these types of movies, but I may see it since you recommended it.

periods can be fun, exciting, and messy for the adventurous.

Beefy

I just spent my evening watching Porco Rosso and the first third of Spirited Away.

Miyazaki is amazing.

See y'all tomorrow.

I've never seen nor heard of either of those movies, that I can recall.

I'm thinking that I might ban hattmoward.
we should have kept the quote pyramid up to rape Jessie in the face.

I took Nesh to see this at the end of june.  It's worth the price of admission just to see the moving castle and the steam-punk feel of it.  Everything about the movie is fantastic.  Not as good as Spirited Away( which amazes me every time I watch it ) but still very very good.

I guess I'm so used to hearing about them they no longer hold their sickening qualities.

<--- The kitty over there is mid-jump for a shot of mung.  Woohoo!
