I was just wondering...

I'm more of a Blues guy, myself. But Jazz is cool sometimes

charmed

I don't like jazz or blues.

Anyone?

What about it? I like the older stuff- Thelonious Monk is a fucking genius.

Monk is good, oh hell yeah...

What do you think about Miles?

I'm inclined to agree with OOB here....  I'm more of a blues type.

However, I have been exposed to some interesting and "out there" jazz and can appreciate the complexities, if not the melodies.

I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

I definitely dig Blues, but older Jazz is great mood music.  The newer stuff I don't care for, especially the R&B infused stuff.

I've never really listened, but if it is good music, I'll like it.
we should have kept the quote pyramid up to rape Jessie in the face.

I wish I had decent taste in music.

Jazz, goooood.

I end up listening to the "lite" stuff when I am in the car with the wife, but there is a public station here that plays the hard core stuff I switch to when I can.

Interesting story, the "lite" station is owned by Clear Channel, who donated a large chunk of money to the Public Jazz station (it is small, noncommercial, and teaches HS students how to run a radio station, even though they do employ professional DJs and have live traffic).  Clear Channel thought is was in their best interest to keep the hard core people happy, and kids educated.  Go figure the corporate heart.

Back on topic, jazz.  I've never really listened to any.  Where should I start?

Jimmy Smith
Wes Montgomery
Thelonius Monk
Miles Davis ( don't listen to Bitches Brew, it's a bit out there and not really "for" new folk )

For some more contemporary stuff, you might want to check out Karate's Unresolved and anything by Tom Waits.
Also I forgot to mention Charlie Christian in my previous post.  Don't over look him.

I remember a radio station out of the Fox valley (WAPL) that would have a "Sunday Morning Jazz program" from 8am to noon every Sunday.  The rest of the days of the week, they were Classic rock.  VERY nice way to spend a lazy Sunday morning.

Creepy Monkey

I used to like the Jazz but with no Karl Malone and John Stockton they aren't very good anymore.

Would you like me to send a mix to the music dump?  ( which, by the way, I will be changing the password to very soon )

I would so love that!!
