I have a landline.  It's been years.

I am dumping comcast because they suck ass and my promo period (I didn't even know I was under a promo period) expired and my rates doubled.  It's back to DSL for me, but Windstream instead of the local company, which seems to be doing pretty well.  Also, it comes with a free landline.  Well, free incoming calls, anyway.

I don't think I will give up my landline until the quality of wireless matches it. Even with full bars, cellular quality just can't compare to copper.

I have my phone through Time Warner Cable. So far I haven't had any problems. I get phone, cable and internet for less than $140 per month. I used to pay $90 for just my landline through MCI.

The only thing I don't like is if the power goes out so does the phone. It is for that reason I'll probably switch back to the phone company if anything ever happens and I can't make a call when I need to.

My Comcast supplied phone line has a battery backup built in so it doesn't die when the power goes out.

I need to contact my cable provider to see if such a device exists. I guess if I were really as worried as I say I am I could invest in a UPS.

Beefy

Yeah, I"m getting a little tired of Comcast raping me.  I should cancel my digital cable, seeing as I never watch it.

Jessie

I might consider keeping them with the higher prices, but their customer service is horrendous, and the quality of service is no better.  I have outages all the time, and my cable picture is awful.

Dear Bennyhana,

I like you.  Remember the good old days when you used to chat?  I will be back at work on Tuesday.  Any chance of you dropping by chat every once in a while again?  That would be awesome.  Like surprise ice cream sandwich awesome.

Bring DS.

Your friend,

I have Time Warner for cable and computer here and Comcast for cable and a T1 line at the beach.  No land lines at either for my personal use.

Dry then Catch

isn't it considered "land" as long as its not wireless?

I don't know if I would consider Vonage or other IP based phones Land Lines. I had Vonage for a while, and the quality could suck if your network traffic got bogged down.

The cable companies have some solution that doesn't require borrowing bandwidth from the video or internet parts of the pipe.
