A child can go only so far in life without potty training. It is not mere coincidence that six of the last seven presidents were potty trained, not to mention nearly half of the nation's state legislators.

Does anyone know of a good, reliable site to get a refurbished laptop?

Did you already break yours?

No, I'm looking for one for a friend.

w00t is an okay idea... if anyone sees one, please let me know.

Good refurb laptops are hard to find. If you can find a good IBM or Dell they are best refurbs to get.

I really know jack about computers.  Pretty much I'm looking for a laptop for someone that's going back to school that he'll use primarily for school work and surfing the web.  Probably not so necessary to have enough power for games or anything.

Remember that older notebooks don't have wireless network capability. Your friend will have to spend between $10-$30 for a WiFi card or USB adapter. I would also recommend the $40 for the CD/CDRW drive.

What constitutes "older"?

Any laptop that doesn't specify it has WiFi or 802.11a or 802.11b or 802.11g capability.

What exactly does "refurb" entail?  Was it just a used unit, or did something happen to damage it?

They won't tell you. It's a mix of reclaimed Lease computers, repaired computers, or just old models that are discontinued and never sold.

That is a good deal. The C610's have a very good reputation.
That's not what I've heard around school. If you put them in your back seat you have a different story.

oh yeah. The batteries have a tendency to explode...

like ReBurn said, don't let it get hot. But other than that they are pretty tough. We got my sister one for xmas and she doesn't have any problems with it.

The exploding batteries cost extra.
