Until I saw this last night at the Troc movie night:

It's an incredibly, incredibly powerful look at the band as it moved from being a punker band to what it is today. It takes you inside the band's experiences through interviews and home footage. Probably one of the most powerful moments is when the drummer is booting up on camera and he talks about how he has been a heroin addict for close to five years and how he has nothing. He sold his instruments to the band, he has no girlfriend, everything he has goes into his veins and how he has to get off of it, very soon, maybe after this last hit.

The documentary shows the lives of the kids as they grew up and you see how the band is all they had because of drugs, because of suicides and more. It also details a crucial period where the most talented member of the band was booted because of drugs and how the "punk" influenced remaining members stepped up through experimentation to find their own twisted muse. Visually/metaphorically it's on par with redemption via a journey through a vast arid land and the band comes out at the end a new entity. I wasn't a fan before the documentary, now I am definitely going to have to pick up some of their stuff.

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is a good intro.

That's been in my Netflix queue for a while.

The new album is okay, but I'd recommend picking up The Soft Bulletin as well.  I can throw some in the Dump if you'd like.

I heard that the Yoshimi one is really, really good. I was going to go for that and the one they released in the 90s that got them all popular. I'd rather pay for it, thanks though!

It is one of the better rock and roll docs I've seen. Gibby Hayes from the Butthole Surfers makes fun of them for stealing their act for about 10 minutes.

Nah- dust implies that it's not humid.  Temps today will be in the upper 90s with humidity to match, staying that way all weekend.

Hmm... AC and a radio or heat stroke and hippies?

HOLY CRAP.  I just saw Pelican with Mono here in baton rouge memorial day weekend.  It was a fucking great show.  A bit of everything that makes a show great.  including a little blood. ;)

Mono as in the electronica band with the female lead singer with the lush voice?

2.) Thank you for introducing me to a band that sounds like I will love them.

3.) Please tell me you are familiar with Explosions in the Sky and if you're not get thine ass to the CD store, stat.

Scroll down a bit.  SMH- can you get here by Saturday?

Lots of good pics, some crappy ones, of the shows last weekend.  I think the last ones in the first set are the Flaming Lips.
