This weekend, I produced an album for a friend of mine.  It's really more an extended LP -- only eight songs.

In the dump, you'll find the four that we did the most work on.  The other four include a rough/live cut we recorded in her spare bedroom, two straight-up cuts that we recorded in my studio/basement (no production), and one instrumental.

She promised to bring me along if she makes it big.  Which would be cool.

It's folk-rock.  Not everyone is into that.  But if you are, enjoy.  Besides, I'm proud of how well they turned out.

Fighting upload problems now to send it to the Dump, but it should be up in 30 mins or so.

Is Taking My Big Purse To The Movies the name of the group?  Album?  Or just how you roll on a good day?

It's the name of the album.  The group is just the one girl, Heidi, and her guitar.  And my computer doing spiffy things to make it sound like there are two or more of her singing at the same time.

All 4 songs now uploaded.  They're at 320K bitrate cos I wanted to master them high before I burned them to CD, so the files are kinda large.

I love most folk music. Except Joan Baez. I'll give it a listen, but if she sounds like Joan Baez, I want my money back.
Underneath this flabby exterior is an enormous lack of character.

I don't know what Joan Baez sounds like off the top of my head.  There's a little Ani DiFranco feel to it though, but she doesn't sing with the same vocal "sneer" that DiFranco usually sings with.

I really like the name of that album.

I also like that someone else says that.  I have a movie purse.

Where can we get the clips to hear her?

I liked these songs. I was wondering if you had the original versions that is just her and the guitar without the computer edits. I don't know much about editing music, but I'd like to here the before and after of it.

I have some very rough originals of them, but they still have harmonies, just sung by a second person.  The thing is, when she performs them live, she has someone sing the harmonies with her, so they're as they're intended to be... the harmonies are slightly less complex, though, because she isn't the official harmony singer.  That person chose not to sing on the album, except for one live cut that I didn't put in the dump.

The only edits I actually did were to make sure that the sound levels were right... she played the guitar part, then listened to it while singing the lead vocals, then listened to that while singing the harmony part.  There was some small production done here and there to change volume, but overall, it's as you'd hear it in a small performance theater.

I'll tell her you liked them.  :)

If you'd like to hear her live, BTW, come to DragonCon on Labor Day weekend.  She usually sits outside the event and busks.

I have no clue what DragonCon is, but I doubt I could make it because I have a lot of shit going on right now.

Does anyone else picture Ross on the keyboard at Central Perk?

On a related note, that chick in the sinful t-shirts ad looks scary and young.
