yay art supply store

so i went and picked up some stuff at an art supply, mostly because i wanted to doodle pictures of naked women. but i'm not supposed to say that.  I grabbed a cheap pastel set, a cheap pencil set, a box of assorted charcoal sticks, a white sketchpad, and a black sketchpad.  i figured i could ... i dunno... make some shit.  my mom and grandmother saw all the stuff i had sitting out at home and asked about it.  they started talking about bob ross, and gram wanted to try making a happy little tree with charcoal.  well she got working on that, and i grabbed the pastels and started doing the same.  the result is attached below.  i assure you i am not 12 and am in fact 21.  can you tell i was using a computer with my left hand and didn't want to get it dirty?

That's almost exactly how I got involved with watercoloring. I suggest you keep it up, even if it's something you do every now and then when you are bored. I use painting as an excuse to get out of the house when I am doing a lot of design work.

I bought some sketch pads, pencils, and drawing how-to books a few years back.  It never went anywhere, but I'd like it to someday.  Charcoals sound like a good idea.

I'd love to develop a nice thick technique, a la Van Gogh.  *swoon*  I love that.
