Dry then Catch

Before I talk to myself about how I love this show, has anyone else watched it?

I had no idea classical Romans were so British in their speech and mannerisms! I half expect Ricky Gervais to pop out of a market booth selling paper goods.   also boobs

I watch it, and i'm sure Bish does, too.

it's not the boobs that suprised me, it's the trimmed pubes. who knew.

ok im about done with season 1

poor Pullo just wasted that slave guy.  I like the buddy-cop comedy aspect of Vorenus and Pullo, though it sounds so cheesy.  I find their lifestyle and guy humor better than Entourage.

Don't spoil it for me, but is this show still active?  Or does it end at season 2?  And if it ended, was it planned end or was it canceled?

by direction or because it was canceled?  I will be mad if there are dangling plot lines

I read somewhere that HBO couldn't justify the cost of keeping it going because it was so expensive to produce.  I haven't watched it, but I hear you can really see the dollars up there on the screen in their recreation of that time period.

So it was canceled rather than ending on its own terms?  Well there are really no full scale battle scenes. You only get to see a quick montage or limited view.  I feel it was almost sort of low budget, but only have the monster budgets of Gladiator, Troy and Kingdom of Heaven to compare it to.  In Season One, the only really grand scene was Caesar's Triumph, and from reading it looks like the blew most of their monetary load in that 10 minute scene.

The limited settings play out more like an English soap opera with togas.  It is certainly not a war epic, despite being marketed as such.

The characters are well drawn out and are full of flawed protagonists and admirable, relatable villians.

The pacing is bad (sometimes years will pass in between cutscenes) and as stated before the perspective is myopic.

Kerry Condon gets a little neked in season 1.
