Just so there's a chance I may be able to help next time this happens, what is a "wordy type bar thingie?"

IE7 doesn't even have one of those, so be prepared for that....

I have a cousin who works at Microsoft.  He told me that Windows Vista is no longer going to handle programs or files, and IE8 is no longer going to browse the internet.  Welcome to the future at Microsoft.

I also have a cousin (on my mom's side of the family) who works at apple.  The new mac G6 that they're working on is the most beautiful piece of plastic you've ever seen.  So much so, in fact, that they've decided that the act of computing on it would sully it, so it just lights up and beeps.

Get ready for lots of new stuff with the next versions of Microsoft products.  In the new Office apps everything is going to be context driven.  There's a push to do away with menu bars and make the workflows more natural.  That's why IE7's menu bar is hidden by default.  You can turn it on, like I did, but you can also do everything without it.  I'm curious to see how that's going to work out.

Er, I'm a bandwidth hog?  dc!  Stop sending me those naughty PMs!  You're wasting kilobytes!!

You're the one who demands them from me....
Just you make sure that you tell Mrs. dc that it's all platonic and such.  I don't want dc, jr. coming after me with those claws and twitchy nose and bushy tail.  *shudder*

It wouldn't be for that reason that they're after you.  It's the yellow SweetTarts (or lack thereof.)
I have such a payoff of yellow Sweettarts for you.  When you least expect it, expect it.

You know what's weird?  After a couple of years, yellow sweettarts get spotty.
Remember the picture I took of the Sweettart ducks I had under my desk for a few years?

I just got back from the big Intel/Microsoft shindig, and I know why IE7 doesn't have the menu bar. Because they are replacing the menu bar with "ribbons".

Ha!  I've seen the ribbons in Office 2007.  I went to a meeting where one of Microsoft's developer evangelists (yes, they really call them that) had a VirtualPC image with Vista and Office 2007 installed.  Get ready to learn how to use Office all over again.

But, um. IE7 actually does have the menu bar.  You just have to right-click in the header and turn it on.  Didn't I say that once?

Grumpus accidentally installed IE7.  And he's missing his wordy type bar thingie.  What does "just have to right-click in the header and turn it on" mean in practical terms?  Give me a step-by-step, please.  Thanks!

Nevermind.  He found it.  Whew.  Close call.

That phrase doesn't get used enough.  Which I guess is good, since it won't get old then.
