You know, I think that if there was a person you didn't like, and you handed them Wasabi Peas and a Vernor's ginger ale, and told them to inhale the smell of Vernor's through their nose and then take a bite of the Wasabi Peas and then exhale through their nose, you could kill them and totally get away with it.

I have an 8 yr old cat who, for all intents and purposes, is very healthy.

However, she's started licking the base of her tail recently, to the point where I noticed this morning that she's got a bald spot there.  Something in the back of my mind knows that there is some cause for this behavior, but I can't remember what it is or how to fix it.

Any thoughts?

I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

She may just have a "hot spot" - you can buy a spray that not only tastes bad to discourage licking, but also cools the heat and heals the skin.

Or she may be insane.  I don't know if there's a spray for that.

Or you could just drop-kick her when you see her doing that.  Animals, much like men, learn through repetition.

I've tried that on Ursus for years.  It doesn't work.  He still licks his tail.  ;)

My parents have a a crazy dog too.  She chews on her paws until they bleed.

BigDun

Dogs that lick/chew their paws either have allergies or are showing signs of stress.

Jessie

My 21 year old cat at my dad's house has taken to sleeping in the litter box.

I don't think she's gonna make it to 22.

:'(
we should have kept the quote pyramid up to rape Jessie in the face.

Jessie

Thanks Gamp.  She's lived a long life, and we were lucky to have her this long.
