Movie premiers

How do people know about movie premiers?  Are they announced?

I think it'd be a HOOT to take the kids to the Pirates premier next spring, especially if it's at Disneyland.  How would I find out when and where?

Most premieres are not public affairs.  You have to be involved with the production or know someone.  Occasionally they are open to the public, but those are usually films with little fanfare.  For example, I got to go to the premieres of Drop Zone in NYC and of Fair Game in Miami.

But all those people who lined up for the first premierE at Disneyland can't have been involved in the production, were they just really lucky?
