I never thought he was that great either.  I did like his Johnny Cash though.  I was impressed with that mostly because I didn't think he had it in him to pull that off as well as he did.

He annoyed me in Gladiator.  Never saw him in a role that I thought was realistic.  Maybe not his fault, but still.

I hated him in Gladiator too.  He just seemed like a smug jerk trying to portray a smug jerk and still not doing it well.
