perhaps this has been posted already. i've become slightly obsessed with this guy. frankly, i have never ever seen a white guy sing r&b with this level of commitment and heart.

here he is, on live at the apollo:

"we left the motherland to settle a colony on Juntoo.  hats with belt buckles."

<- this is a prankapple.

and then youtube also has a few clips from a 2003 documentary about him. it's hard for me to imagine someone with this kind of vocal flexibility.

so - from marvin gaye to lou rawls:

#2
this is a longer clip from the documentary, where he talks about what he does. he's a street performer only. he has sung with some regularity at different spots in greenwich village for the past 10 years or so.  he is, as far as i can tell, still living as a homeless person.

if you don't want to watch the whole documentary, you should at least go to about 6:30  in the video, where he covers michael jackson's "ben". if i remember correctly, michael recorded "ben" when he was about 14. i still cannot believe that a guy that sings like fucking lou rawls can sound like this. plus, he breaks my heart.

and i love the shocked black guy in the crowd. he can't believe it either.

here is another version of "let's get it on" - i think this is also from the documentary:

i love how completely unselfconscious he is about committing himself 100% to what he is singing, while still being an amazing performer.

and then - well. what you see is what you get.

and, as far as i can tell, that's his entire recorded oeuvre as it appears on the internet.

Wow.

Thanks for this...I really really like it.  It is refreshing.
You're an asshole and I hate you.

He reminds me somewhat of Andrew Strong.  So much voice coming from such an unlikely source.
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

I wish I was just 1/10th as cool as him.
11:42:24 [Gamplayerx] I keep getting knocked up.

i'm sort of ridiculously obsessed with him. i watch his youtube videos a couple of times a day - just now i went a listened to him sing "ben" again. i think he is amazing.

I fell asleep to him singing Let's Get It On the other night.

I loved having that in my head all night.  :)

just seeing Reburn's name makes me think of neighborhood insurance rates and gutters in Mumbai.

Speaking of neighborhood insurance rates, State Farm sent me a check for $67 because they're doing so well. Nice to know your insurance company is so flipping profitable.
