Title: nishi's house
Post by: nishi on May 11, 2005, 07:57:21 PM
after really enjoying that thread the other day where people were posting the art in their homes, i finally got around to taking pictures of some of the art that i had. and as i was getting ready to post, it occurred to me that it might be fun for people to have their own threads with pictures of stuff in and around their houses - where we could get a little tour of each other's homes and stuff.  plus, since we have some folks with new homes, folks moving into new homes, folks working on their current homes... i though that a thread for each of us to share all that might be fun. or.... i might be overestimating, but what the fuck.

so. with that in mind, i'm going to post some of the pictures of the art in my house, and i guess i'll add some pictures of other parts of my house that are of interest in one way or another as we go along.

i am lucky in that i have several close friends who are painters. this painting is in my dining room.

and this is probably my favorite - it hangs in the living room. her name was petunia. this is only a so-so photograph of it. well, all of these are only so-so photographs of these paintings.

both of the previous paintings are pretty large, especially the nude. this one is very small. they're all by this guy:

i also have some landscapes and some still lifes by that same artist - the landscapes didn't photograph well at all and i was too lazy to go outside, and the still lifes aren't great, but here's one of them:

yay!!! i am enormously patient!!

i pretty much consider my home to be a giant, working still life, and finding the perfect place for pieces of art from people that i love in that giant still life is one of the best parts about living that way.

this is the last addition for tonight - i am hugely fond of mid-century furnishings (and i live in a mid century house), and the mother of the painter of the nude and petunia gave me this painting. not because it's a great painting - but it's a lively one, and it really captures, i think, a lot of the color and the mood of some kinds of painting and even furnishing of that period. i like very painterly painters.

i don't like having faces in my face. i'm ok with lounging around with somebody and stuff, but to me, "snuggling" is all close up and completely intertwined and with faces in my face. that part creeps me out.

i suspect that what i call lounging other people might theoretically call snuggling. lying around like a pile of puppies is good. faces near my face - no good.

see? now this person is cuddling with a knee. that is totally acceptable:

but this?? brrrrrr. a face in my face.

What's wrong with face-to-face?  Don't like someone's breath on you?

well, for this kind of thing, you're way too close if i'm cross-eyed when i look at you.

it's funny - i'm really trying to answer your questions directly, instead of just being a smartass, and it's hard to describe. while i have certainly had my head on someone's shoulder and they on mine, i don't like it for very long. it gets hot and sweaty - and since we're talking about cuddling, that's not a good thing. same with breath. someone breathing on me gets too hot.

spooning is ok for short periods of time. again, the hot breath on my neck thing. and by short time - five minutes, 10 if i'm really tired, it's really cold, and i really like you. i'm sort of kidding, but sort of not.

i'm an exceptionally physically affectionate person - i hug and kiss and pat a great deal. i'm sure it's some deep flaw in my psychological makeup that makes me not want faces in my face.

i will continue to consider this.

i like the warmth of sleeping back to back with someone. that's very pleasing. ok. i admit it. i'm just a weirdo.

feet in lap. that's good.
head in lap. that's good.
head on stomach. sitting/lounging with legs thrown over the other person's legs. those are both ok.

it's that face thing.

i bought that lamp, its twin and another retro lamp at a yard sale, for $10 each. when i raced up to buy them, the woman looked at me and said "do you own some kind of a store where you sell lamps and things?" and i said "no. actually. my house is just really really dark."

So at this party there will be:

-nishi's cooking
-knee cuddling
-doggy petting
-nishi dying from laughing
-sleeping on boys chests
-playing with ducks
-meeting Timothy

You should market this. You could make fat cash.

pitching in for groceries is always good. as is bourbon. you could also do me a huge favor by picking up a couple/few packs of ping pong balls. since we play in the garage.... we lose a lot of them behind various things.

Do you have a military base near you?  If I go, we can hit up the commissary and Class 6 to save a lot of money.

I heard that they're cutting about 4500 military jobs and adding 1200 civilian jobs.

We could easily take a trip to Ft. Knox when you get here Dots.  Not a problem.
