Title: Alton Brown's Swiss Steak
Post by: Jessie on April 23, 2007, 12:39:30 PM
I made this for dinner last night, and it was Faaanntastic.  OMG it was so good.

I only made 1/4 of the meat and 1/2 of the sauce (I like the sauce over my potatoes, too), and added 1/4 of a green bell pepper to the veggies when I sauteed them.

Seriously, this was one of the best meals I've made in a while.

Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, and cream corn.  Yum-Oh!

Whenever you say Yum-oh! it makes me think of Evil Mike.

Whenever he had to hork up a loogie and spit it out he'd remark about yummo.

Sorry.  I just had to get it out there.  Maybe if I talk about it I'll stop thinking about it?

Did you use vegetable oil or bacon drippings?

I used canola oil.

Except for the bell pepper, that sounds okay.  Although I'm not certain what beef bottom round is.

You've never had round steak?

It's just cheap steak.  Nothing special.

Oh, I used really think cut round steak, too, so it was extra tender.

I don't like cheapsteaks, no matter how think they're cut.  :D

Gamp doesn't do "nothing special."  EVERYTHING has to be "special" for Gamp.

Although I'm not certain what beef bottom round is.

An unfortunate reality until I start exercising regularly again.

I just laughed so hard that I had to explain this whole thread to one of my coworkers.

My mom makes a really good Swiss Steak.  She only does it about once a year but it's a family recipe and it's always yummy.
